DeSclafani, Terry taken in MLB Draft

Ryan Terry, the all-time hits leader at Monmouth University and Anthony DeSclafani, a former pitching ace at Colts Neck High School and now a bullpen mainstay for the University of Florida in its College World Series title bid, were selected Tuesday in Major League Baseball's First-Year Player Draft.
DeSclafani was a sixth-round pick of Toronto, the 199th player selected.
Terry, from Levittown, Pa., was taken at the end of the 21st round by Tampa Bay, the 660th player chosen.
Appearing in 27 games — 25 in relief — DeSclafani is 5-3 with three saves and a 4.36 ERA for Florida (48-16).
The Gators have advanced to Friday's noon game in the best-of-three NCAA Super Regionals vs. Mississippi State (37-23) that will be carried live on ESPN2.
"It's always been a dream to play pro baseball and today it has finally come," DeSclafani said late Tuesday.
"I'm really looking forward to my pro career but right now we want to take care of the national championship for the University of Florida."
DeSclafani was also selected by Boston in the 22nd round of the 2008 draft with the 682nd choice but did not sign.
Terry led the Northeast Conference in hits with 84 on his way to a school-record 274. "I'm really happy and really thankful at the same time," Terry said. "There's a lot of good players out there that never get a chance. I'm just thankful the Rays have given me this opportunity."
The senior's .382 average was good for second in the league, and his 43 RBI and seven home runs placed him second and third in the conference, respectively.
Paced by Terry, Monmouth claimed the 2011 NEC Regular Season Championship. It finished one win shy of tying the school record of 37 victories and set the program record for league victories with 25, erasing the previous mark of 23 set in 2002.
